12 Points That Show Christianity Is True (Part One)
In Lesson 1, the groundwork was laid for reconstructing a biblical worldview by establishing how we think, how we define truth, and how we approach doubt. This second lesson begins the practical and logical process of rebuilding belief by introducing Dr. Norman Geisler’s “12 Points That Show Christianity Is True.”
These points form a logical, step-by-step framework that moves a person from uncertainty to confidence. They are not emotional arguments or blind statements of belief. Instead, they are carefully connected truths supported by logic, philosophy, history, and Scripture.
This lesson focuses on the first six points, with an emphasis on the first four, which establish the foundation for everything that follows.
The goal of this lesson is not simply to provide information, but to restore confidence that Christianity can be believed in a rational, thoughtful, and truthful way.
1. Truth About Reality Is Knowable
The first and most essential point is this: truth is knowable.
In a culture that divides truth into “your truth” and “my truth,” Christianity makes the bold claim that objective truth exists and can be discovered. This idea is based on the correspondence theory of truth, which holds that something is true if it accurately reflects reality.
In simple terms:
Fire is hot whether someone believes it or not. Truth does not depend on feelings or opinions.
If truth were not knowable, then it could not be known that truth is unknowable. That statement would defeat itself. Yet humans do know things — therefore, truth must be knowable.
The Bible affirms this idea by teaching that knowledge begins with God (Proverbs 1:7) and that Jesus Himself is “the truth” (John 14:6). Truth is not only real; it is rooted in God’s very nature.
For someone reconstructing their faith, this point is critical because it:
- Re-anchors belief in reality instead of emotion
- Restores confidence in Scripture as truth
- Breaks the hold of dangerous relativism
- Gives permission to trust reason and logic again
- Becomes the foundation for every other point that follows
If truth is not knowable, then there is no reason to continue.
If truth is knowable, then Christianity can be tested and believed.
2. Opposites Cannot Both Be True
Once truth is established as knowable, the second point follows naturally:
Contradictory statements cannot both be true at the same time and in the same sense.
This is known as the law of non-contradiction.
For example:
- A person cannot be both alive and dead at the same time.
- God cannot both exist and not exist.
- Christianity cannot be true and false in the same way.
If opposites could both be true, then no statement would have meaning, and communication would collapse. Every worldview would be equally valid and equally meaningless.
The Bible affirms that God is not a God of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) and that He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). Truth is consistent because God is consistent.
This point is essential in resisting deconstruction because it:
- Restores confidence in logical thinking
- Prevents endless “both/and” confusion
- Re-establishes the coherence of Scripture
- Provides clear boundaries for honest discussion
If Christianity is true, then worldviews that contradict it cannot also be true.
3. The Theistic God Exists
Once the truth is established and the contradiction is eliminated, the next logical question is: Does God exist?
The third point answers: Yes — a theistic, personal God exists.
This belief is supported by powerful logical arguments, including the cosmological argument:
- Everything that begins to exist has a cause
- The universe began to exist
- Therefore, the universe has a cause
That cause must be uncaused, timeless, immaterial, powerful, and personal — in other words, God.
The fine-tuning of the universe (its incredibly precise physical constants) also points to intelligent design rather than random chance. The probability of life existing by accident is astronomically small.
The Bible begins with the assumption of God’s existence: “In the beginning, God…”
Other Scriptures confirm that Christ holds the universe together (Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:3).
For someone rebuilding a biblical worldview, this point is vital because:
- It restores meaning and purpose
- It defeats materialism and naturalism
- It provides a foundation for morality
- It affirms that life is not an accident
- It makes a relationship with God possible again
If God exists, then life has meaning.
If God does not exist, then nothing truly matters.
4. If God Exists, Miracles Are Possible
Many who have deconstructed Christianity reject the idea of miracles. But this is only logical if God does not exist.
If an all-powerful Creator exists, He can act within and beyond the natural world He designed. Miracles are not violations of nature; they are signs that the Creator is greater than nature.
A miracle is a supernatural act of God that temporarily suspends natural processes to reveal His power and purpose.
Just as a programmer can change the code of a program they created, God can intervene in the world He designed.
The Bible is filled with examples of God intervening through miracles:
- The parting of the Red Sea
- Fire from heaven on Mount Carmel
- Water turned to wine
- And most importantly: the resurrection of Jesus Christ
This point is essential because it:
- Makes the resurrection logically possible again
- Restores the Bible’s supernatural authority
- Reconnects the believer with God’s active power
- Rebuilds hope in God’s sovereignty
If miracles are possible, then redemption is possible.
5. Miracles Confirm a Message from God
Miracles in the Bible are not random acts of power. They are divine validation that someone is truly speaking for God.
In Scripture, miracles served as God’s “credentials” — proof that His messenger was authentic.
Moses, Elijah, Jesus, and the apostles were all confirmed by supernatural signs.
The resurrection of Jesus is the greatest and best-attested miracle in all of history. It is supported by:
- Multiple eyewitness accounts
- Early written records
- Hostile source confirmation
- Over 500 witnesses
If the resurrection is true, then Jesus is who He claimed to be — and Christianity stands as truth.
This point helps students:
- See miracles as meaningful, not random
- Understand the purpose of the resurrection
- Recognize God’s voice in Scripture
- Restore trust in divine revelation
6. The New Testament Documents Are Reliable
The final point in this lesson is the historical reliability of the New Testament.
Compared to all other ancient documents, the New Testament is:
- Better preserved
- More widely attested
- More carefully examined
- More highly confirmed
There are over 5,600 Greek New Testament manuscripts, with 99.5% textual accuracy. No core Christian doctrine is in question. Even hostile, non-Christian writers confirmed that Jesus existed and was worshiped.
The New Testament is not myth or legend.
It is a historical record.
This restores confidence because:
- Faith becomes rooted in history, not fantasy
- Jesus becomes a verifiable figure
- Scripture becomes trustworthy again
- Christianity stands on evidence, not emotion
Bottom Line
This lesson marks a turning point in the reconstruction process.
Once you understand that:
- Truth is real
- Contradictions cannot both be true
- God exists
- Miracles are possible
- Jesus is authenticated
- Scripture is reliable
Then Christianity is no longer a blind belief —
It is a reasonable conclusion.
The remaining points in the next lesson will continue building on this foundation — moving you even closer to a confident, fully reconstructed biblical worldview.
You are not losing your faith.
You are rebuilding it on something stronger than before.
